The buckskin is the result of one cream gene acting upon a bay (BLACK + AGOUTI) base colour.
Like the palomino it dilutes red hairs to gold but has no effect on black pigment so leaves the mane, tail & legs black.
In turn, these buckskins have a 50% chance of siring another buckskin like themselves when re-bred to a bay.
If bred to another buckskin, there is a 25% chance of both parents passing on the cream gene - resulting
in the homozygous cream, the PERLINO
